Fact File: Mice

  • Appearance: Mice are small rodents with a similar appearance to rats but a little smaller. They come in all colours such as brown, black and grey. They also have small sharp claws and a long fur-less tale.
  • Species: Over 1000 species.
  • Size: 6 to 7 inches (15 to 18 centimeters)
  • Weight: 20 to 40 grams
  • Lifespan: 1.5 to 2.5 years
  • Habitat: Mice are found in nearly every country and type of terrain. They can live in forests, grasslands and man-made structures. Mice typically make a burrow underground if they live out in the wild. Mice live near humans and thrive in places such as barns, granaries, and fields, or any other places where food is readily available.
  • Why Control Them: Much like rats mice are a menace who cause damage to properties through gnawing and contamination through defecating. They breed extremely quickly and can go from a small problem to a massive problem very quickly.
  • How to Control Them: The most important thing is to eliminate entry points to prevent them getting in. The next step would be to set traps and the placement is vital.
