Cockroachs (Blattella germainica, Blatta orientalis)
There are two species of cockroach found in the U.K. Both are non native and are usually found in stores, hitching a ride on packaging from around the world.
What are cockroaches?
Cockroaches are in the order Blattodea and are common, hardy insects that can tolerate a wide of environments from artic cold to tropical heat. They are considered to be oner of the hardest insects on earth with some species being active for a month without food. Living up to a year the female may produce up to eight egg cases in a lifetime which holds as many as 300 to 400 off spring.
How do I know if I have cockroaches in my home or on-site
Cockroach’s are nocturnal insects and preferer dark moist places to breed. they are usually found behind fridges, sinks, and cookers as well as under drains or free standing storage in commercial settings. being light sensitive you may not notice individuals during the day. however this can vary depending on infestation levels. the species can flatten their bodies to fit into or under narrow areas, cockroaches can also been found in wall crack, tight fitting skirtings and under rubber matting.
What should I do?
